Interview with Interior Design Expert Sandra Drechsler

Tell us about yourself; Who are you and what do you do?

I am an interior designer with over 23 years in the industry, mainly based in London, UK.
I was a Creative Director at Taylor Howes Designs, an Associate in yachts and Aviation at Winch Design and am now working on Bergman's behalf as a brand ambassador, acquiring business and establishing new contacts.

What is your favorite project you are currently working on or that you have completed?

My favourite project was the interior design and refurbishment of a grade II listed property in London, Kensington.
We dealt with an art collector and I travelled to Amsterdam to select the appropriate pieces for the house.
This experience made me learn more about modern art as well as a once traditional home. We gave it a complete facelift and created not just a home, but an art gallery, too. (This was on behalf of Taylor Howes Designs).

What do you think makes a hotel feel like home or what elements make a hotel especially unique?

I personally feel the location and architecture plays a big role in integrating an environment that manages to fit its roots.
A bespoke ff&e concept makes the hotel unique. I believe marrying old and new furniture/lighting can bring a place to life and makes it eclectic, thus special in all its elements.

Which interior designer/architect inspires you most and why?

I personally respect Christian Liaigre's work very much. The simplicity and class of his designs remain unmatched.
He was not only an amazing interior designer, but also a wonderful furniture and lighting designer. His taste is timeless, even now after his passing.

What are your top three favorite hotels in the world?

I love the Danieli Hotel in Venice, the Chiltern Firehouse in London's Marylebone as well as the Corinthia Hotel in London.
All are masterpieces in design, creating an experience. All in their own respective right.
